Concerns Raised by Birnin Gwari Residents on the Rise of Banditry

In Kaduna State, specifically in the Birnin Gwari local government area, the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) has voiced its worries regarding the increasing incidents of banditry in the region.

They have urged the government and security agencies to take necessary actions to safeguard lives and property.

A statement issued by Pharm. Jemila Sani, the chairperson of the group, expressed disapproval of the recent tragic assaults carried out by armed bandits at Unguwan Danko and Unguwan Kanawa of Dogondawa Ward, leading to the demise of 23 individuals.

While acknowledging the efforts of the security personnel in addressing the situation, the union has called for further proactive measures to be taken.

The union has urgently brought to the attention of the authorities the recent surge in violent attacks orchestrated by armed bandits in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. They highlighted that on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Unguwan Danko and Unguwan Kanawa of Dogondawa Ward were severely affected by a devastating attack, resulting in the tragic loss of 23 lives.

Furthermore, the statement mentioned that just 24 hours later, traders returning from the weekly market in Birnin Gwari Town were ambushed near Mararraban Agero, resulting in the casualties of four vigilante members and the abduction of several individuals.

The community of Bagoma, a suburb of Birnin Gwari, is currently facing a growing humanitarian crisis as women, children, and the elderly are being displaced due to the continuous threat of attacks.

The statement emphasized the need for enhanced security measures to restore peace and stability in the region, acknowledging the bravery of both the community members and the government in supporting their efforts.

The plea was made for the government to intensify its fight against armed banditry and provide essential aid to the affected communities.
