Another round of clashes between Boko Haram and the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) in Borno State has led to the deaths of at least 85 terrorists.
A counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, revealed that the intensified clashes occurred between April 24 and 25, 2024.
Reports indicate that ISWAP successfully dislodged the Boko Haram rival faction from several islands they had previously seized.
According to Makama, ISWAP reinforced its fighters at Tumbum Allura after a confrontation in the Kukawa axis on April 24, 2024. They also mobilized fighters from other locations with ammunition and weapons.
Further clashes ensued as ISWAP launched attacks on Boko Haram at various locations, resulting in the death of numerous Boko Haram fighters.
Analysis by Makama suggests that the ongoing clashes between ISWAP and Boko Haram present an opportunity for government security forces to eliminate both groups and end the terror in the Lake Chad Basin.
