‘Checking Progress: Governor Fubara’s Visit to Assembly Quarters’

During an inspection of the Emohua/Abalama/Tema Junction dual carriageway road project, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, clarified his recent visit to the State House of Assembly residential quarters. He stated that the purpose was to assess the structures for potential rehabilitation to enhance their livability.

The governor’s visit, which was captured in videos shared on social media, sparked discussions regarding the motive behind it. In response, Fubara explained, “Is the Assembly quarters not part of my property? Is there any issue in checking the state of affairs there?”

Fubara highlighted, “We have a new Speaker, and I visited to personally observe the situation and evaluate any necessary actions for the benefit of our people.”

Speaking about the road project evaluation, Fubara mentioned, “We are considering this road for commissioning, and the pending work mainly involves installing lighting. We are aiming to complete it soon.”

Emphasizing the importance of governance for the people, Fubara pointed out the significance of improving the road, which was previously associated with criminal activities like kidnapping.

Fubara’s visit followed the emergence of a factional Speaker, Victor Oko Jumbo, in the State Assembly. Jumbo, supported by lawmakers loyal to Fubara, declared the previous Assembly’s actions null and void.

The political discord in Rivers State is rooted in the power struggle between Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
