Chad Takes Preemptive Measures to Protect Against Coronavirus

Amid the absence of any reported cases of COVID-19, the Chadian government has made the decision to temporarily close its airports to all flights in an effort to prevent the potential spread of the virus.

The two-week measure, set to begin at midnight on Thursday, was announced by the government on Monday.

It was clarified in the statement that the restriction excludes flights transporting goods.

The government has urged Chadians residing abroad to return to the country within the specified timeframe.

“The land borders remain open apart from those with Sudan and the Central African Republic,” the government stated. These borders had been closed prior to the outbreak in China in December.

Additionally, the government emphasized its intention to “strictly limit movement outside refugee camps,” which house 465,000 refugees.

As of now, Chad has yet to report any cases of coronavirus.
