Chad Takes Precautionary Measures by Closing Airports in Response to Coronavirus

Although Chad has not recorded any cases of COVID-19, the government has taken the proactive step of closing all airports to incoming flights for a period of two weeks to prevent potential spread of the virus.

The decision, announced on Monday, is part of the government’s efforts to safeguard the country from the global outbreak.

The airport closure, slated to commence at midnight on Thursday, excludes flights carrying essential goods.

Additionally, Chadians living overseas who intend to return home are urged to do so within the specified timeframe.

The government has emphasized that while the land borders remain operational, those with Sudan and the Central African Republic are exceptions due to pre-existing closures resulting from conflicts in those regions.

In further measures to contain the potential spread of the virus, the government has announced strict limitations on movement outside refugee camps, which are home to 465,000 refugees.

Despite these precautions, Chad has yet to report any cases of coronavirus within its borders.
