Canada Offers to Cover Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Security Costs

Reports indicate that Canada has stepped forward to cover the round-the-clock security expenses for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their period of transition in the country.

Following the announcement of their plans to divide their time between Canada and the UK, concerns arose regarding who would be responsible for the security costs of the Sussexes.

Although the royal couple stated their intention to achieve financial independence, the issue of their continuous security protection remained a topic of concern.

Assuring the Queen, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has pledged to ensure the safety of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their son Archie, potentially incurring significant costs for Canadian taxpayers.

In a rare statement released by Queen Elizabeth, she expressed her support for Harry and Meghan’s decision to pursue a new life as a young family, despite preferring them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family.

The Queen confirmed a period of transition during which the Sussexes will split their time between Canada and the UK.

According to the Evening Standard, Prime Minister Trudeau privately assured the Queen that the couple’s security would be addressed, even if they continue to receive security from British royal protection officers.

This decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some opposing it.

Aaron Wudrick, director of the Canadian Taxpayers’ Federation, voiced his opposition, stating, “I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect us to pay for everything the way we do for a royal visit. If they’re going to make Canada a second home, a good step in the right direction would be to pay for at least part of it, and not rely on taxpayers to fund their entire lifestyle.”
