Call from Anglican Bishop to Government: Address the Soaring Inflation

Stephen Oni, the Bishop of the Diocese of Ondo in the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, has made an earnest plea to the Federal Government to tackle the escalating inflation in the nation.

Expressing concern over the enduring hardship faced by citizens, Oni highlighted how the situation is driving a significant emigration of young professionals.

In a communiqué released following the conclusion of the third session of the 24th Synod, the bishop called on administrations at all levels to implement strategies that can mitigate the rapid inflationary trends.

Presiding over the Synod at Saint Peter’s Anglican Church in Araromi-Obu, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, the bishop urged the Federal Government to embark on the restructuring of Nigeria, advocating for a prompt devolution of powers, especially in terms of resource control among the states.

Expressing discontent over the persistent abduction of schoolchildren, which he described as abnormal, he condemned acts of kidnapping, banditry, and various forms of insecurity.

He also criticized the alarming rate of crude oil theft in Nigeria and called for the church to actively preach against the culture of materialism, particularly when it negatively impacts society’s fabric.
