Call for Suspension of Yoruba Nation Agitation by Oduduwa Group

In a recent development, the Oduduwa Development Initiative has urged for theady suspension of the Yoruba Nation agitation, emphasizing the importance of working together for the progress of Nigeria.

Following the invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat in the Agodi area of Ibadan by Yoruba Nation agitators led by Modupe Onitiri-Abiola, widow of late MKO Abiola, the National President of the group, Akinyele Olasunbo, made this call.

The agitators, dressed in military attire and armed, tried to raise their flag on the premises of the state House of Assembly within the secretariat.

Reportedly, 29 members of the group have been arrested by the Oyo State Police command, and the state government has demolished a building where the agitators were operating from.

Leading activists of the Yoruba Nation, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), and Professor Banji Akintoye distanced themselves from the invasion.

Expressing his thoughts, Olasunbo stated, “At this moment, our focus should be on joining hands to propel Nigeria towards progress. Let us all rally behind the New Hope agenda of Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the betterment of our nation. I believe it is time to set aside this agitation and take a break.”

Meanwhile, National Secretary of Campaign for Democracy, Mr. Olufemi Lawson, acknowledged the legitimacy of the self-determination struggle but stressed the importance of following legal processes.

He commented, “The quest for self-determination is valid. It is acceptable for individuals to decide to separate from a nation, but the process must adhere to legal norms.”

Lawson further denounced the unlawful attempt to breach government facilities, labeling the secretariat invasion as an act of disorder carried out by individuals who lacked legal awareness.

He expressed relief that the Yoruba Nation agitators disavowed the unauthorized activities, attributing the incident to illiteracy and manipulation by self-serving elements.
