Mr Nnamdi Odo, a concerned resident of Enugu State, has urged Governor Dr Peter Mbah to intervene urgently in the case of a female nurse who was brutally assaulted by masquerades.
According to reports by NewsNow, the female nurse, Miss Ogbonna Blessing, was savagely attacked while on her way to work in the Nsukka area of Enugu State.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage.
In an open letter titled “Urgent Intervention Needed to Address Brutality in Nsukka Local Government Area” addressed to Governor Mbah, Odo highlighted Miss Blessing’s case as just one among many.
He expressed, “I am reaching out to you to address a matter of utmost urgency that demands immediate action. It pertains to the recent act of brutality suffered by a nurse in Nsukka Local Government Area at the hands of a masquerade.
“The horrific violence inflicted on the innocent nurse not only violates human rights but also signals a breakdown of law and order in our community.
“Such barbaric acts have no place in a civilized society and must be strongly condemned and swiftly dealt with.
“As the Governor of Enugu State, it is your responsibility to ensure the safety and security of all residents, irrespective of their profession or background.
“The brutal assault on the nurse underscores the urgent need for heightened vigilance and preventive measures to avert similar incidents in the future.
“Moreover, this incident underscores deeper societal issues that require comprehensive addressing.
“The prevalence of violence, particularly under the guise of tradition or culture, reflects a leadership and governance failure at various levels. It is vital that we collaborate to nurture a culture of tolerance, respect, and peaceful coexistence.
“Hence, I urge Your Excellency to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and ensure swift justice for those accountable.
“I also implore you to institute measures to prevent recurrence and promote dialogue and understanding among all stakeholders.
“Your involvement in this matter is pivotal not just for the affected individuals’ well-being but also for preserving peace and harmony in our cherished state.
“I have faith in your dedication to upholding justice and protecting the rights of all citizens, and I await your timely response and action on this critical issue.”
