Amaju Pinnick Denies Influencing Finidi’s Super Eagles Appointment

In a recent statement, former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, clarified that he played no part in the selection of Finidi George as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

Pinnick had expressed his preference for Finidi, leading to speculations that he had influenced the NFF’s decision on the coaching position.

Ultimately, Finidi secured the role over his closest competitor, Emmanuel Amuneke.

Despite his positive relationship with current NFF president, Ibrahim Gusau, Pinnick emphasized that he did not impose any coach on his successor.

During an interview on Lagos Talks FM, Pinnick stated, “The president (Ibrahim Gusau) is very capable and constantly dedicated to his duties.”

He also noted, “What I have noticed is a lack of support for harmony and cooperation in Nigerian football. If I have a harmonious relationship with my successor, there is no basis to claim that I hand-picked Finidi George.”

Pinnick highlighted Gusau’s significant contributions during both Aminu Maigari’s and his own tenure, praising Gusau’s understanding of the sport, politics, and financial management.
