Building of Yoruba Nation agitators destroyed by Oyo

The demolition of the building in Ibadan, where Yoruba Nation agitators under Modupe Onitiri-Abiola operated from, was carried out by the Oyo State Government on Wednesday.

According to reports from PUNCH Online, masked individuals were apprehended by security personnel during an invasion of the state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan last Saturday.

The said building, situated on Toye Oyesola Street in the Ibadan South West Local Government Area, was demolished.

When contacted by a PUNCH correspondent, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, CP Fatai Owoseni (retd.), confirmed the demolition but refrained from providing further details.

“For more information, you can reach out to the Commissioner of Police,” he stated.

Earlier today, 29 Yoruba Nation agitators were brought before the Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan to face charges related to the attempted invasion of the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly.

The case, with the charge number Mi/520c/2024, involves the Commissioner of Police and the 29 suspects.

They were charged with seven counts, including treasonable felony, belonging to an unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, and behavior likely to incite a breach of peace.

The Investigative Police Officer, Inspector Bakare Rasaq from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan, referenced Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000, as the basis for the charges.
