An advice from the veteran Nollywood star, Kanayo O. Kanayo, suggests that Nigerians should always seek blessings from their parents by presenting them with their first salaries, rather than giving them to religious leaders.
He also points out that the tradition of offering the first salary of each year to a pastor within the Nigerian Christian community goes against biblical teachings.
Kanayo urges Christians to be more mindful of their financial decisions and not to be swayed by religious practices.
Expressing his opinion on his Instagram page, Kanayo stated: “Deliver your first paycheck to your father for his blessings, not to your pastor.
“And for those pastors who claim that the salary is rightfully theirs in a video from January, have you considered the daily expenses like food and transportation to and from work for that month? Where is the scriptural support for this practice?
“Christians, it’s time to wake up. This is not true Christianity.”
