Benjamin Okezie Kalu commends Tinubu for approving South East Development Commission Bill

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, extends his sincere appreciation to the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for giving his signature to the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill, officially authorizing the establishment of the commission.

Kalu, along with all legislators from the Southeastern region in the House of Representatives, sponsored the bill.

This legislation aims to set up a commission responsible for receiving and overseeing funds from the national allocation for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure, such as roads and houses, damaged during the civil war aftermath over 54 years ago.

Additionally, the commission will address ecological issues and other environmental or development challenges in the Southeastern states, including Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, an excited Kalu expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu, his fellow lawmakers, and all Nigerians for their support in passing the bill.

He also assured the people of the South East region that they can expect “increased positive attention from the President.”
