Basketballer Christian Wood Tests Positive for Coronavirus, Becomes Third NBA Player Affected

Detroit Pistons’ Christian Wood has been diagnosed with coronavirus, making him the third NBA player to test positive for the virus.

The news was shared by NBA insider Shams Charania, who mentioned that Wood had recently competed against Jazz center Rudy Gobert, the first NBA player to test positive, before transmitting the virus to his teammate Donovan Mitchell.

‘Detroit Pistons‘ Christian Wood has tested positive for coronavirus, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Wood had 30 and 11 rebounds against Rudy Gobert on Saturday night before a career-high 32 on Wednesday.

Wood’s positive test came a week after his game against Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz, just before the NBA suspended its season.

The Pistons later confirmed that a player, not specified but identified as Wood, had tested positive and has been in self-isolation.

“A player on the Detroit Pistons, who is under the care of team medical staff and in self-isolation since Wednesday night, was tested for COVID-19,” the team announced. “A preliminary positive result came back on March 14. The health and safety of our players, our organization, those throughout our league, and all those potentially impacted by this situation is paramount.”
