Bandits Express Interest in Peace Talks with Zamfara Governor via Viral Video

A viral video has surfaced showing some bandits calling for peace talks with Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal.

The leader of the group, Garba Habeeb, appealed for negotiations with the state government in the video.

He specifically addressed Governor Dauda Lawal, urging for peaceful coexistence in Zamfara State and emphasizing the need for dialogue over continued conflict.

Garba stated, “We must seek peace for a harmonious Zamfara State. Let’s learn from the conflicts in Eastern Africa and find common ground for resolution.

“Additionally, I urge a message to the military, particularly Tukur Usman Gusau, to refrain from airstrikes against us, the bandits.

“Last week, vigilantes encroached on our territory, causing unrest. Governor Lawal, as the leader of Zamfara State, I implore you to lead by example and convene all stakeholders for negotiation.”

Efforts to reach the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, for comment were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered and messages unresponded.

In 2019, Zamfara bandits laid down conditions for surrender, including an end to herdsmen killings and freedom to access local markets without fear.

Recently, Governor Lawal requested heightened military presence in response to escalating insecurity in the state during a meeting with Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, in Abuja.

The governor expressed concerns over the resurgence of attacks in Zamfara State and urged General Musa to deploy additional troops and resources to address the security challenges.
