Atiku Accuses FG of Fueling Violence in Kano Amid Emirate Crisis

In light of the emirate crisis in Kano State, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has pointed fingers at the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government, indicating that they would bear responsibility if violence erupts.

Atiku expressed concerns that Tinubu’s government was escalating tensions in Kano by providing security for the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero.

Following the deposition of Bayero by Governor Abba Yusuf and the reinstatement of Lamido Sanusi as the 15th Emir of Kano on Friday, Atiku took to X to caution against destabilizing Kano State amidst the unfolding crisis.

He criticized the Federal Government’s deployment of soldiers in Kano, stating that it not only jeopardized peace and security in the state but also violated the amended 1999 Constitution.

Emphasizing that the appointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano was in accordance with constitutional provisions, Atiku condemned the Federal Government’s role in supporting Aminu Ado Bayero’s return to the Nasarawa Palace, indicating that such interference undermines the Nigerian military’s integrity.

Atiku reminded the Tinubu administration of Kano State’s longstanding history of peace and urged against any actions that could disrupt its harmony, highlighting the peaceful transition following Sanusi II’s dethronement in 2020.

He unequivocally warned that should law and order be compromised in Kano State, particularly in Kano Municipal, the Federal Government must bear responsibility for providing security cover to Aminu Ado Bayero, as it would be seen as instigating chaos and anarchy.
