Arsenal Struggle: Mario Melchiot Reflects on Havertz’s Difficulties

According to former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot, one of the reasons why Arsenal’s summer signing Kai Havertz is struggling at the Emirates is due to the lack of support from the fans.

Havertz had a challenging final season at Chelsea, scoring only nine goals in 47 appearances as a forward.

When Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta decided to sign Havertz for £65 million in the summer transfer window, it received negative reactions from many Arsenal fans.

Havertz initially struggled in his new role as a central midfielder for the Gunners.

It took him nine matches to contribute his first goal for the team.

However, during Arsenal’s 4-0 victory against Bournemouth last weekend, the 24-year-old finally scored his first goal for the club.

“I understand Stevie’s point about the game not being over just because it’s 2-0. But I believe the bigger picture is crucial,” Melchiot commented (via HITC).

“Havertz is facing difficulties because the fans don’t like him, which adds a lot of pressure whenever he has possession of the ball.”
