COAS Lagbaja Vows Nigerian Army’s Commitment to Neutralize Terrorism

In a resolute stance, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, asserted that the Nigerian Army is resolute in its mission to neutralize terrorists, kidnappers, and criminal elements perpetrating insecurity within the country.

He emphasized the need for Commanders at all levels to exhibit ingenuity and courage, noting that the adversaries they face thrive on perceived weaknesses, thus requiring a bold approach in dealing with them.

During the closing ceremony of the COAS first quarter conference held in Abuja, Lagbaja reassured Nigerians of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering determination to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and properties nationwide.

Addressing the populace, Lagbaja urged law-abiding citizens to continue supporting the Nigerian Army in their collective efforts to fortify the nation’s borders, protect loyal citizens, and foster an environment conducive to good governance and economic prosperity.

Highlighting the importance of combating fear, a prime tool of their adversaries, he emphasized the need to counter their tactics effectively to ensure a secure environment for all.

Expressing gratitude to personnel serving in leadership roles amid the challenging times, the COAS disclosed plans for the Department of Army Operations and Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps to provide essential briefings to divisions and specialized formations to align them with AHQ’s expectations.

He clarified that commendations like the Formation Command Appreciation/Recognition Plaque do not automatically grant recipients the Field Command Medal of Honour award, cautioning against misconceptions regarding such honors.

Encouraging officers to embrace postings as routine military procedures, he acknowledged the plaque awarded to senior commanders as a token of appreciation for their dedicated service towards national development.

To enhance operational efficiency, he announced the formation of a debriefing team led by the Chief of Operations to analyze the performance of reporting formation commanders and provide insights to improve overall security and troop welfare.

The standing committee’s forthcoming reports are expected to offer valuable lessons for AHQ to better guide new formation commanders and enhance the overall operational effectiveness and troop morale.
