The two Catholic priests’ passing leads to mourning in Anambra

In the Ekwulobia Diocese of Aguata Local Government Area in Anambra State, two Catholic priests have recently passed away.

Fr. Ernest Nwankwo and Fr. Christopher Ike are the names of the revered priests who have left the community and Catholic faithful in mourning.

Their deaths occurred on March 19, 2024, and April 9, 2024, respectively, leaving behind a significant void.

A condolence message was shared with the church and the community by Sly Ezeokenwa, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, and made available to journalists on Thursday.

Ezeokenwa, in his condolence message, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of the two “revered priests”.

He attended the Requiem Mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Ekwuluobia and described the loss as a painful blow to both the local community and the church as a whole.

He remarked, “These virtuous men led lives of devotion, service, and kindness, impacting the lives of many within and beyond Ekwuluobia diocese.

“Their dedication to their faith and their contributions to the spiritual growth and well-being of their congregation have been admirable and transformative.

“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families of Nwankwo and Ike, and all who mourn this profound loss.”

He reiterated his and APGA’s solidarity with the Catholic Diocese of Ekwuluobia during this challenging period, acknowledging the enduring strength of the community amidst this sorrow.

He prayed for the peaceful rest of their souls, recognizing the loss as a painful blow to both the local community and the broader church community.
