APC State Governors Meet to Select New Chairman Following Abdullahi Adamu’s Resignation

After Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s resignation as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday night, the party’s governors are currently in a crucial meeting to discuss the party’s affairs.

Present at the meeting, which is taking place at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro Abuja, are Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo state, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state, Umar Bago of Niger, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara.

Also in attendance are Acting Ondo State Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa, Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Una Sani of Kaduna, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, and Dikko Radda of Katsina.

Earlier in the week, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party postponed the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting after Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s resignation as the party’s national chairman.

In a press briefing after the emergency meeting of the NWC, the APC acting national chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, confirmed the meeting’s relocation and the resignation of the party’s national secretary, Iyiola Omisore.

Omisore was reportedly excluded from the emergency NWC meeting on Monday, and the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Kyari, took over the party NWC following Adamu’s resignation.

Adamu, elected as the national chairman of the ruling party in March 2022, tendered his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu while he was away at the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya. His resignation letter was received by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

A source in the party’s NWC mentioned, “We saw it coming, he acted in time to avoid being humiliated out of office. The truth is that trouble has been brewing; it’s been clear that he won’t survive.”
