Anthony Joshua Delays June World Title Defence Against Kubrat Pulev Due to Coronavirus

Anthony Joshua, the British-Nigerian boxer, has postponed his world heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev, which was scheduled for June 20, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The two-time heavyweight champion, Joshua, who has not fought in the UK for two years, was supposed to face Pulev at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, these plans have been put on hold as both parties collaborate to set a new date, possibly around August, when it is expected that the coronavirus pandemic would have subsided.

“We’re speaking to Tottenham, we’ve postponed the 20th date,” revealed Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn to Sky Sports on Friday.

“We are working with them for dates in July and early August as well, when we hope we’ll be back.

“Hopefully we see that fight take place at the end of the summer.”

Pulev, the Bulgarian challenger, is the IBF mandatory challenger for Joshua, who also holds the WBA ‘super’ and WBO titles.
