Alleged Incident of Farmer’s Hand Being Chopped Off by Herdsman in Kaduna Community

In Damakasuwa community, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, a farmer named Bitrus Chawai reportedly had his hand severed by a suspected herdsman named Wuzaipa Salisu.

Bitrus Chawai, who is a former NULGE Chairman in the Kauru Local Government Area and now a trustee at the state level, had returned home in preparation for the upcoming farming season when the attack occurred, according to his younger brother Barnabas.

Upon visiting his farm, located not far from their family house, Bitrus found that his crops had been destroyed by cows. When he confronted the herder responsible, he was viciously assaulted, resulting in the loss of his hand.

The community has reportedly been facing consistent attacks from herdsmen, with two similar incidents occurring last year, as Barnabas mentioned.

Bitrus was promptly taken to the Divisional Police Station by his father to file a complaint and seek justice. However, his condition continues to deteriorate, and he has been referred to a hospital in Kaduna for further treatment.

Despite efforts to contact the spokesperson for the state’s police command, ASP Mansir Hassan, there has been no response to calls and messages.
