Accused in $87 Million Theft Case Receives Modified Bail Conditions

A couple, Abayomi Oluwasesan and his wife, had the bail conditions adjusted by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja for their alleged involvement in the theft of $87 million from the online crypto platform, Afriq Arbitrage.

The defendant was accused of illegally accessing subscribers’ investments at the Afriq Arbitrage Company, an online trading platform. The prosecution claimed that the defendant, despite pleading not guilty, illicitly altered the ownership details of the company’s CEO, allowing him to access and redirect $87 million of subscribers’ funds.

Justice M.S Idris initially granted bail to the defendant.

Upon a request from the defendant’s counsel, Ayotunde Ogunleye, SAN, the court agreed to modify the bail conditions, particularly concerning the sureties. The revised conditions state that the two sureties must own properties within the FCT, without specifying Maitama specifically, while reducing the bail bond amount to N400 million.

The court scheduled the commencement of a speedy trial for the 14th of May. In the interim, the accused individuals were returned to the Suleja Correctional Centre until they meet the adjusted bail terms.
