Abia Government Denies Reports of Newly Constructed Road Being Washed Away

In response to a circulating video on social media, the Abia State Government refuted claims that stormwater had washed off a newly constructed road overseen by Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

During an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of Pepples Road and other roads in Aba, Otumchere Oti, the Commissioner for Works in Abia State, clarified that the road had not been washed off by rainwater, contrary to the video’s claims.

While touring some project sites in Aba, the commissioner pointed out that only the section of the road with a loose stone base and lacking protection had been affected by stormwater, causing the misunderstanding.

He emphasized the need for proper protection measures, stating, “The road is still under construction, and once completed with all necessary protections in place, such incidents will be avoided.”

Addressing concerns about the road’s catchment area and drainage, Oti assured that steps would be taken by the state government to ensure the road’s durability and resilience against natural elements.
