A serious fire has unleashed this Tuesday afternoon at the Tomorrowland Festival, in Boom (province of Antwerp, Belgium), just a few days after the start of the event. The flames have reached the main scenario, which was in the middle of the assembly phase, and the images shared in social networks show how the structure burned intensely, accompanied by roller caused by the pyrotechnics installed in place.
Fire spreads rapidly and alarm to neighbors
The emergency services were alerted shortly after 6:00 p.m. and immediately went to the Schorre Park, where the festival is traditionally celebrated. More than 1,000 workers were working on Monday in the last preparations to host tens of thousands of attendees since Friday.
The authorities have sent a B-Alert (National Emergency Message) to the residents of the area, asking them to close doors and windows due to the dense column of visible smoke from several points of boom and surroundings. According to first information, the flames could have originated from a failure in the pyrotechnic facilities of the stage.
The Tomorrowland spokeswoman, Debby Wilmsen, has declared that at the moment the priority is to guarantee the safety of the workers: “We are evaluating the situation. The first thing is to make sure that all the staff is well. Only later we can assess how this affects this to the development of the festival this weekend.”
Although victims have not been reported, the spread of fire towards a nearby wooded area, detected by a helicopter, has generated additional concern among emergency services.
Can Tomorrowland be celebrated?
For now, the immediate future of Tomorrowland 2025 is suspended. Waiting for a technical evaluation of damage, the organizers do not rule out any scenario, including the partial or total cancellation of the first weekend of the event.
It is expected that in the next few hours an official statement on the feasibility of the festival and the decisions that will affect attendees, workers and suppliers will be issued.
