At least six dead and several injured in a gun attack in the center of Krakow

At least six people have died (four women and two men) and around 15 have been seriously injured by shots fired by an individual who opened fire from a car in the center of the Polish city of Krakow. It all started around 3:00 p.m. when the authorities received several calls from people who were in the Central Market, the main square in Krakow. Police were informed that the driver of a black SUV had arrived at the square and opened fire on random people. Furthermore, in a statement, the agents have also stated that the person responsible, 24 years old and of Polish origin, wore military-style clothing, used military weapons and had a “fascination” with far-right ideology; so much so that he dressed with Nazi symbols.

It should be added that the Polish Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that the deceased are, at the moment and from what has been investigated, of Austrian, German, Portuguese, Russian and British nationality.

The authorities have also stated that the person responsible has been shot by police officers and taken to the hospital. “The person responsible has been arrested. There are injured people, including police officers,” the Police said at first, while the Krakow City Council has advised the population “not to approach the area where the Police and emergency services work.”

There have been many users on social networks who wandered through the city center and witnessed the tragic incident. Some have published on their profiles the moments of tension and anxiety that have been experienced in the Polish city.

In the suspect’s vehicle, security forces have found numerous pieces of weapons and ammunition inside. For his part, the Minister of the Interior, Waldemar Zurek, has denounced the “enormous tragedy” of the Market Square. “My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the victims of this unimaginable tragedy,” said Zurek, who also said that the person responsible is injured and is in custody.

For his part, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has published on social media that he is aware of what is happening after the “tragic shooting.” Tusk explained that the Police are already investigating the background of the detainee and all the circumstances of the attack to clarify what happened in Krakow, while the suspect remains in judicial custody.

The alleged murderer had bodies in his house

The Polish Prime Minister has also reported that dead people were found in the home of the man arrested for the shooting. A shootout in which even the alleged perpetrator of the attack was injured. In an appearance before the media, Donald Tusk indicated that they were two women and a man, “probably direct relatives of the aggressor”, whom he kept in his home.
