The former candidate for the presidency of Brazil, Flávio Bolsonaro, has fled to the United States, as confirmed by deputy Mauricio Marcon of his Liberal Party, despite the fact that the Police have annulled his passports. Marcon has published a video on social networks in which he explains that Bolsonaro “has taken a flight and is heading to exile” to the United States.
“Like María Corina Machado when she fled the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, Flávio Bolsonaro, the candidate defeated in the elections, is also seeking asylum in another country,” commented Marco. Bolsonaro would have traveled “through Venezuela or Argentina” and from the United States “he will denounce the regime imposed by Lula and that entire group against the Brazilian people.”
The Supreme Court has ordered an investigation into the alleged foreign financing of his campaign
But why has Bolsonaro really fled? Early this morning, the news emerged that the Supreme Court of Brazil has ordered the Federal Police to open an investigation against the former presidential candidate for the alleged foreign financing of his campaign and for manipulating the algorithm on social networks to favor his content over that of other candidates.
This order comes after complaints about alleged financing of the US lobby Rockbridge Network, founded by the current vice president of the United States, JD Vance, and also about future concessions in the event that Bolsonaro wins the elections.
According to Judge Flávio Dino, it is “necessary to determine who could have formulated said proposal, to whom it was directed, by what instrument and what this alleged financing would consist of,” because the mineral resources are from Brazil.
There are also complaints about the alleged manipulation of Meta – the parent company of Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp – which would have manipulated the algorithm to favor and give more visibility to Bolsonaro’s campaign content over that of his rivals. Ten days ago, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) had already warned Meta not to interfere in the content of any candidate.
Another investigation opened for alleged money laundering through betting houses
Furthermore, just yesterday, Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes – the investigator of the main judicial cases against the Bolsonaro clan – ordered him not to leave the country and to hand over his passport within 24 hours. However, Bolsonaro has not delivered it and the Federal Police has canceled it.
Another of the investigations that the former candidate has open is money laundering through betting houses, although the case is taking place under judicial secrecy. At the center of the investigation is Willer Tomaz, lawyer and close friend of Flávio, who is believed to have been the operator of a corporate network with suspicious financial movements related to the world of betting.
Tomaz is also in the fucking crosshairs of the authorities for a corruption scandal related to improper discounts in the pensions of millions of retirees.
Flávio denied having said that he intended to flee, after his brother Eduardo, who self-exiled to the United States after declaring himself a victim of judicial persecution, recommended it to him if he lost the elections, something that finally ended up happening, since he obtained 48% of the votes compared to 52% for Lula.
