A priest dies in Ecuador after a cross falls on him during a mass broadcast live

A priest has died in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, the most populated in the country, after a large cross fell on him while he was carrying out a mass that was being broadcast live on social networks. Patricio Sánchez Molinari, the priest, was in the middle of the ceremony, in front of the altar, when the large wooden cross hanging on the wall with a crucified Jesus fell forward and hit him on the head.

Some women who participated in the mass assisted him immediately and in the video of the transmission, which is published on their Facebook social network account, you can hear them asking someone to call an ambulance. However, the archbishop of Guayaquil and Ecuadorian cardinal, Luis Gerardo Cabrera, confirmed the death in a statement.

The video went viral on networks

The video of the accident, which occurred on Saturday night, went viral on social networks when other Catholic churches and educational centers mourned the death of the priest and sent condolences to his family and friends.

Patricio Sánchez Molinari belonged to the congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, a missionary community founded in 1732, and was in charge of the Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro church, located in south-central Guayaquil.
