Iran says the "economic war" of Trump is a "smokescreen" to cover the "unprecedented crisis" that the United States lives

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, assured this Thursday that the declaration of “economic war” issued by US President Donald Trump against Tehran responds to an “unprecedented” crisis within the United States and “will only bring more defeats” for Washington.

“The so-called ‘Economic D-Day’ is a smokescreen for the United States’ own crisis: unprecedented debt and skyrocketing interest costs. Doubling down on failed policies will only bring more defeats and the enmity of the Iranians,” Araqchi said.

Thus, he has warned that “economic terrorism from the United States threatens the global economy and sovereignty around the world,” according to a statement posted on social networks.

“Devastating” economic war

Hours earlier, Trump had announced that he would begin “the most devastating economic operation ever undertaken” against Iran, signaling an “unprecedented economic war and isolation” in which the White House would inflict “tremendous economic consequences” on any country that allows any type of aid to Tehran from its institutions and companies.

“Oil smuggling, exchange lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies: all this must end now. You know who you are,” he said, calling the announcement an “economic D-day”, alluding to the Normandy landings in World War II, a key point in the Allied operations against the Nazi occupation in Western Europe.

Next, and changing the intimidating tone of the previous lines, Trump called for the collaboration of other countries: “We need all our allies to join the United States to isolate and defeat the Iranian threat,” he stressed.

“These fanatics are on the ropes, and these historic measures will weaken them and prevent them from spreading terror around the world,” he alleged, before concluding by declaring that “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”
