Monarchs Urged to Join Efforts Against Ritual Killings, Police Say

In response to the persistent issue of ritual killings in the country, the Nigeria Police are calling on monarchs and community leaders to play a role in combating this menace.

Highlighting the need for a united front to address the alarming ‘Badoo rituals’ in the Ikorodu community of Lagos State, the police emphasized that the cooperation of monarchs and community leaders is essential in ending these horrific practices disguised as rituals.

Speaking on Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stressed the importance of traditional institutions and community leaders in the fight against ritual killings.

Expressing concern over the increasing rate of ritualistic killings, Adejobi urged communities to collaborate and provide valuable information to combat this crisis effectively.

Referring to the successful partnership with traditional institutions in the fight against Badoo rituals in Ikorodu, Lagos, Adejobi noted that ritual killings are more of a spiritual challenge that requires a comprehensive and inclusive strategy rather than just a legal approach.

Adejobi’s message resonated the need for community leaders and traditional institutions to actively engage in addressing this issue, drawing parallels to the successful strategy deployed during the Badoo rituals eradication in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Emphasizing the spiritual dimension of the problem, Adejobi emphasized, “We cannot effectively combat it without the interest and involvement of traditional institutions. It transcends mere legality or physical efforts.”

He further stressed the essential role of leaders and traditional institutions in the fight against ritual killings, underscoring the need for a unified approach involving law enforcement agencies and community leaders.
