Ruling of Nigerian court puts 14-year-old in juvenile home for 6 months


Ordered by the Jos Magistrates’ Court, a 14-year-old boy who committed theft by taking two grinding machines will spend six months in a juvenile home.

Mr Shawomi Bokkos, the Magistrate, conducted a swift trial and sentenced the minor upon his confession of guilt.

Although the magistrate levied a fine of N20,000 on the offender.

He advised the boy to amend his behavior.

Prior to this, Inspectir Ibrahim Gokwat, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the incident was reported on July 1 at the Laranto Police Station by concerned community leaders.

The prosecutor disclosed that the boy collaborated with his friends, who are currently evading authorities, to steal machines valued at N50,000.

However, during police inquiries, the stolen grinding machines were successfully recovered.

As per Plateau Penal Code Law, this act is punishable, the prosecutor mentioned.
