Commissioner: Monthly sanitation exercise to be announced by Sanwo-Olu

Expected soon is the announcement by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, regarding the inauguration of a monthly sanitation exercise in the state.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, highlighted on Sunday the impending declaration by the governor.

In a statement conveyed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kunle Adeshina, the state government underscored the significance of promoting good sanitation habits among all residents to ensure a clean, flood-free, secure, and sustainable environment throughout the state.

This emphasis was reiterated by Wahab during the weekly community-based environmental sanitation advocacy campaign organized at Omobokun Street, Ekimogun Underbridge, Iyana Oworo, Bariga Local Council Development Area.

The commissioner explained, “Our goal is to intensify awareness and advocacy before the official start of the monthly environmental sanitation, which will soon be announced by the governor.”

Additionally, the commissioner addressed the issue of certain residences where investigations revealed improper disposal practices such as directing septic tank output into drainage channels or constructing over them.

He mentioned the government’s plan to seal such properties in response to these findings.

Regarding the flooding problems in the vicinity, Wahab declared that the government would review the assertions made by community members blaming the flooding in the Ekimogun area on the sand filling at the Oworo end.

He assured the government’s commitment to providing a sustainable resolution to the issue.

Notably, Kolade Alabi, the Chairman of Bariga LCDA, expressed disappointment over the deteriorating condition of Ekimogun Road post its inauguration by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

He urged the residents of Bariga to cease the littering of roads and canals with waste, advocating for proper waste disposal at home and support for PSP operators.
