Tragic Accident in Lagos: Driver Fatally Injured in Collision between Truck and Minibus

In a statement released to the press, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the unfortunate passing of a driver in a road traffic accident that occurred in the Mangoro area of the state.

A distress call received by LASEMA through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines at approximately 8:35 am prompted the agency to dispatch its Eagle Response team from Cappa to the scene.

Upon reaching the location at 8:48 am, the team found that an articulated truck with registration number MEK 945 XA had collided with a minibus bearing the registration number AGL 287 YJ, resulting in a tragic accident.

The investigation indicated that the primary cause of the accident was attributed to the reckless driving and overspeeding by the truck driver, who rear-ended the minibus, forcing it into the fence of a nearby shopping complex.

Regrettably, the driver of the minibus, an adult male, lost his life in the incident. LASEMA’s Response Team promptly attended to the situation, bagging the victim’s corpse and handing it over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.

Moreover, the driver of the articulated truck, also an adult male, sustained injuries and was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital before the arrival of LASEMA’s response team.

The truck involved in the accident has been successfully extricated from the fence and moved to Dopemu Police Station, allowing the road to resume normal vehicular traffic.

A collaborative effort involving the LASEMA response team, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, and the Nigeria Police Force was instrumental in managing the aftermath of the incident on-site.
