Article Rewrite Suspected pickpocket Suleiman reveals how he dispossessed people of their money

Admitting to the crime, a 48-year-old man arrested in Adamawa State for pickpocketing has shared his modus operandi.

Hailing from Mararraban-Mubi in Hong Local Government Area, the man, identified as Abubakar Suleiman, disclosed that his operations were mainly in Uba, Mararraban-Mubi, and Michika in the northern part of the state, as well as in Jimeta, within the metropolitan Yola North LGA.

Caught in the act by the police while attempting to steal money from a co-passenger in a Keke NAPEP along the Bank Road axis of Jimeta, the suspect explained that he would typically make fake phone calls during the ride to divert the attention of other passengers, allowing him to carry out his theft.

Referred to as a provision seller, Suleiman confessed to engaging in pickpocketing for over two years.

Currently under police custody, he has provided his statement to the authorities.

Confirming the arrest, the Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, advised caution to individuals using Keke NAPEP across the state.

Notably, in Adamawa State, where Keke NAPEP serves as the primary means of intracity commercial transport, the vehicle is often exploited by criminals.

A prevalent tactic employed by young criminal groups known as Shila Boys is to operate as riders and pilfer mobile phones and cash from passengers through deception or intimidation involving light weapons.
