Police in Adamawa State have apprehended a young individual on suspicions of kidnapping and causing the demise of his own cousin.
In a statement issued by law enforcement on Monday evening, it was disclosed that Muhammed Mustapha, aged 22 and resident of Madina in Mubi North Local Government Area, was taken into custody by police operatives on July 27, 2024. He stands accused of abducting and ultimately ending the life of his eight-year-old cousin named Muhammed Auwal.
The distressing incident is reported to have occurred on July 25, 2024, within the confines of the Madina Ward in Mubi North LGA.
As outlined in the statement, the suspect allegedly seized the victim and confined him in a concealed location, demanding a ransom of N2.8 million.
Tragically, following this, the suspect purportedly administered an intoxicating substance to the young boy before strangling him to death.
“Acting on a report from Harris Muhammed, the victim’s father who incidentally is also the suspect’s uncle, law enforcement officers apprehended the suspect on July 27, 2024. The arrest was carried out by detectives from the Command attached to the State Intelligence Department (SID),” authorities mentioned.
Reportedly, the suspect voluntarily admitted guilt to the abhorrent crime, attributing it to the impact of the intoxicating substance he had consumed.
