Assistance from the Federal Government Provided to Kebbi Flood Victims

Relief materials including food and supplies have been allocated to those impacted by the 2024 flood catastrophe in Kebbi State as part of efforts by the National Emergency Management Agency.

In a statement made on Sunday in Gusau, Aliyu Shehu-Kafindangi, the Head of the NEMA Sokoto Operation Office, announced the distribution of these resources. He mentioned that this initiative came about following requests from the state government and legislators, and after an evaluation of the flood situation by NEMA and the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency.

NEMA has provided aid to households affected by the disaster across 13 local government areas in the state, as outlined by Shehu-Kafindangi.

The areas covered include Birnin kebbi, Kalgo, Suru, Bagudo, Maiyama, Koko-Besse, Jega, Argungu, Arewa, Dandi, Augie, Alier, and Gwandu.

These relief efforts were initiated to bring relief to the distressed communities.

The relief package consists of food staples like rice, beans, maize, cooking oil, spices, pasta, and salt, alongside non-food items like mosquito nets, blankets, and mats, according to Shehu-Kafindangi.

The primary aim of this direct distribution is to assist the victims and alleviate the impact of the disaster on them,” he remarked.

Shehu-Kafindangi highlighted that the distribution process was overseen by officials from the NEMA Sokoto Operations Office, the Office of the Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on State Emergency Management Agency – Bello Relisco, and delegates from the House of Representatives representing the six federal constituencies in the state.
