Confession of a Man from Niger: Why I Killed and Buried My Father

Following a disturbing incident in Minna, the Niger State Police Command apprehended Mizanmi Abubakar, a man in his middle years, for the murder of his own father using a hoe.

The tragic event transpired in the Barkin-Sale area of Minna, the state’s capital, last Sunday.

After committing the heinous act, the 29-year-old not only ended his father’s life but also dismembered his body before burying him in a shallow grave on their property.

Prior to this gruesome discovery, the 65-year-old victim had been reported missing by his family members. Subsequently, they reported his disappearance to the Kpakungu Divisional Police, prompting immediate action by the authorities who delved into the matter.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Command released a statement regarding the arrest.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, a report was received on a Tuesday morning about the disappearance of a 65-year-old man named Abubakar Adawa from his residence in the Barkin-Sale vicinity of Minna.

Following this report, police officers assigned to the Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), visited the family’s home and interrogated the deceased man’s son, Mizanmil Abubakar (29 years old), and his mother, Aisha Abubakar.

During the thorough search of the premises, law enforcement officials made a shocking discovery. The mutilated body of the missing individual was found buried in a shallow grave on the compound.

Upon questioning by the authorities, the suspect admitted to the gruesome crime, revealing the motives behind his actions.

He confessed, “I took the life of my father as a result of the intense animosity he harbored towards me. Utilizing a hoe as my weapon, I ended his life, dismembered his body, and hastily buried him within our compound.”
