EFCC nabs 11 individuals for online fraud in Uyo

An operation led by the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) resulted in the arrest of 11 suspects believed to be involved in internet fraud in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement released on Monday, spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrests.

The suspects, consisting of nine men and two women, were apprehended on Ikpa Road while driving a convoy of cars. Their arrest was based on credible information regarding their suspected fraudulent online activities, extravagant lifestyles, and public displays of wealth in Uyo.

Among the vehicles seized were a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (ABC 553 LD, Abuja), a Toyota Camry LE (KKN 48 AE, Akwa Ibom), two Honda Accord vehicles (LSR 754 AQ, Lagos and LSR 475 FN, Lagos), a Toyota saloon (RBC 1898J, Abuja), and a Lexus 300 saloon (JJJ423 JK, Lagos).

In addition to the vehicles, authorities also confiscated 15 smartphones and 10 bundles of N200 notes from the suspects.

Oyewale mentioned that once the investigation is complete, the suspects will face charges in court.
