Three Individuals Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Raping Deaf Woman

In a significant ruling, the Kebbi High Court 7 has handed down life imprisonment to Amiru Sani, Aliyu Umar, and Bashar Dan-Inno for the heinous crime of raping an 18-year-old married deaf woman. The court, presided over by Justice Shamsudeen Jafar in Birnin Kebbi, found the trio guilty of the despicable act that took place in Wararin Zaromawa village.

The Prosecution Counsel, Faridah Muhammad, detailed how the defendants committed criminal conspiracy and rape against the victim in Gwandu Local Government Area. Muhammad stated that the convicts forcibly entered the victim’s home, subdued her with a cloth, and assaulted her one by one.

Referencing the Kebbi State Penal Code Law, 2021, the counsel urged the court to convict the defendants as the law mandated a strict sentence for such offenses. The prosecution presented three witnesses and six exhibits to support their case, showcasing the gravity of the crime committed.

Contrarily, the Defense Counsel, Ahmed Abubakar-Filgila, called upon the convicted individuals to testify in their defense without presenting any additional evidence. Abubakar-Filgila implored the court to consider clemency during sentencing.

In delivering the verdict, Justice Jafar emphasized the prosecution’s sound establishment of the rape incident. He underscored the strong evidence provided by the victim and the first defendant, which remained unchallenged by the defense.

The judge asserted that all three defendants collaborated in executing the crime, having unequivocally proven their guilt beyond doubt. Justice Jafar declared the individuals guilty under the stipulations of sections 259 and 60 of the Kebbi State Penal Code Law, 2021.

Concluding his judgment, Justice Jafar sentenced Amiru Sani, Aliyu Umar, and Bashar Dan-Inno to life imprisonment, reaffirming the court’s commitment to upholding justice and punishing those who violate the law.
