This Thursday, Israel bombed again a bridge over the Litani River that had already been hit the day before to cut off access to the southern strip of Lebanon, and injured a journalist and a cameraman from the Russian RT television who were working a few meters away.
The Lebanese National News Agency (ANN) reported that a new action by Israeli fighters hit the Qasmiyeh bridge, “in the same location that had been attacked yesterday”, and caused minor injuries to a journalist, without offering details about the identity of the victim.
However, RT confirmed that its correspondent Steve Sweeney and a cameraman identified as Ali Rida were injured due to the impact of a missile just ten meters from the place where they were filming in the vicinity of the bridge and “not far” from a military base.
According to the channel, Rida considered that they were attacked “deliberately” despite being identified as press, as shown in a video of the bombing in which Sweeney can be seen wearing a blue vest with the badge on his chest.
The British journalist was reporting on camera when the impact occurred.
The attack occurred a day after a program director for local Al Manar television and his wife were killed in a bombing of their apartment in Beirut.
Israel had already bombed at least two crossings located on the Litani River on Wednesday, in what it justified as a measure to prevent the passage of fighters and resources from the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah to the border region.
The strip that runs from the de facto border to that river has been practically empty of population for some time, since in addition to being the subject of intense bombings it is also affected by a forced displacement order issued by Israel shortly after the start of hostilities.
