Trinidad and Gregorio are teachers from Marbella who are currently on vacation in Doha (Qatar). In statements to Onda Cero, they have denounced that neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor the Consulate have contacted them after Iran’s attacks on Qatar, after previously the United States and Israel jointly attacked Iran: “We have not received any information,” they lamented.
Although she has contacted me through social networks, through which they are telling her how to proceed, “but they have not contacted me,” she reiterated. At the time of the attacks they were on a beach. Suddenly, ES-Alert messages have started reaching them in Arabic. To understand them, they have needed translation systems: “They recommended that we leave open spaces and take refuge in closed spaces,” he indicated.
According to Trinidad, they did not really know why they were receiving these warnings, although they had previously heard sirens. Given this situation, they have decided to return to the hotel where they are staying. “After asking the staff, they told us to remain calm, that it was a simple precautionary warning,” although shortly after they began to tell them to go into the rooms.
Qatar has closed airspace
Trinidad has assured that they do not know when they will be able to return, because the country has closed the airspace: “The airline has not officially communicated anything, but when I went to the Qatar Airways website it told me that right now the airspace is closed.”
Even so, he has indicated that, for the moment, the situation is somewhat calm, at least in the area in which they are located. “The situation at this moment is calm. From time to time sirens and occasional explosions are heard again, but the atmosphere inside the hotel seems normal. The reception is working, there are hotel staff working…”, he explained.
Thus, the Spanish Embassy in Qatar has published a document on social networks with advice on how to proceed in these circumstances, with advice on where to seek refuge or protection measures.
Foreign Affairs advises Spaniards to leave the area
For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked the Spaniards who are in the area in a statement to leave. At the moment, the Spanish Embassy in Tehran is “closely monitoring” the situation in Iran, where there are 158 Spaniards.
On the other hand, the Spanish Embassy in Israel is advising Spaniards who are in this country on social networks to follow the recommendations of the Israeli authorities “in the face of the escalating situation” and to stay close to shelters. Other embassies in the countries in the area, such as that of the United Arab Emirates, have advised Spaniards to remain “in their homes until further notice and stay away from military installations.”
