NEMA Reports 16,000 Families and 6,000 Farmers Affected by 2022 Lagos Floods

The impact of the 2022 floods in Lagos State has been significant, with 16,000 families and 6,000 farmers bearing the brunt of the disaster, as revealed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Coordinator of NEMA, shared this information in a statement released on Friday in Lagos. The statement was issued in the context of the NEMA/World Bank initiative aimed at enhancing resilience and drawing lessons from the 2022 flood disaster.

Highlighting the extensive reach of the floods, Farinloye quoted NEMA’s Director-General, Mustapha Ahmed, emphasizing the widespread impact on various sectors of the economy in Lagos State.

Ahmed also underscored the importance of reassessing all response efforts, identifying and addressing any gaps to ensure effective and efficient future responses to such incidents.

As a result of the events in 2022, NEMA directed its Lagos Territorial Office and other field offices to focus on mitigating losses and strengthening the resilience of Nigerians as they prepare for the 2023 rainy season.
