Flood Claims Three Lives in Kebbi

Three individuals have tragically lost their lives as a result of a severe downpour that persisted for hours on Saturday in the Dakingari area of Suru Local Government Area in Kebbi State.

The Chairman of Suru Local Government Area, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Suru, lamented that aside from the loss of life, the flood also caused extensive damage to properties worth millions of naira.

He revealed that the flooding was exacerbated by the water flowing down from the mountains surrounding the town of Dakingari following the heavy rain.

Alhaji Lawal Suru remarked, “For the past two decades, we have been grappling with floods during the rainy season. Previous administrations, led by Nasamu Dakingari and Atiku Bagudu, constructed drainages in the town in an attempt to address the issue, but it has failed to prevent annual flooding.”

He suggested that constructing a concrete fence and outlet around the mountains could potentially prevent future floods.

Furthermore, he urged the residents of the area to refrain from building structures on waterways and to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
