Threat of More Lawmaker Killings in Anambra by Gunmen

There is a looming threat of further lawmaker murders in Anambra state as unknown gunmen have issued a warning. This threat comes in the wake of the recent killing and decapitation of Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, a representative of Aguata II constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Okoye was abducted in Aguata on May 15, and his head was discovered in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, May 21.

A resident of Nnobi informed Daily Trust that a note was left beside Okoye’s head, which was dumped by the roadside.

The note, though partially obscured by raindrops, contained a chilling threat of more casualties. It began with the word “warning” and at some point stated, “everywhere you go, you cannot hide anywhere. We will go after you one by one because soldiers and police are no longer our problem.”

Furthermore, the Anambra state government has announced a N10 million reward for anyone providing information leading to the capture of the gunmen responsible for the killing and beheading of Okoye.
