The arrest of Mbazulike Iloka, the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, has come after his suspension by Governor Chukwuma Soludo in connection with the death of his wife, Chidiebere Iloka.
Before the tragic incident, Iloka had been installed as chairman of the local government area, but was suspended by the state government over allegations of wife battery, which allegedly led to her death. Despite denying the claims and asserting that he did not hit his late wife, Iloka has been removed from office and is under arrest, currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Awka, Anambra State, on charges of culpable homicide.
Popularly known as Mba Mba, the embattled chairman continues to assert that his wife’s death resulted from her slipping and falling while bringing him food, hitting her head on a concrete wall.
In response to the arrest, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police command urged the public to await the findings of the autopsy to determine the cause of the wife’s death.
