63 Individuals Arrested in Lagos for Not Using Pedestrian Bridges

Across various locations, 63 individuals were apprehended by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps. They were arrested for bypassing the highway without utilizing the pedestrian bridges and partaking in street trading.

On Friday, the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this information through a post on his social media handle.

He stated, “Yesterday, officials of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial(KAI) apprehended 63 persons at different spots in the state for failing to use the pedestrian bridge while crossing the highway and engaging in street trading.”

“Various areas like Oshodi Oke, Ile Epo, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ajah, etc., were among the locations where these individuals were caught. They have been arraigned in court for prosecution in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Protection Law 2017.”

Notably, thirteen individuals were detained on Thursday for avoiding the pedestrian bridge while crossing the highway at the Oshodi Oke area.

Earlier in February, the Lagos State Government reminded residents to utilize pedestrian bridges, emphasizing that pedestrian crossing major highways in the state is a violation of the law. It was also highlighted that any offender caught will face legal action.
