3,500 personnel deployed by FRSC for Easter in Lagos

Ensuring the safety of residents during the Easter celebration, the Lagos State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has mobilized 3,500 personnel across the state.

Comprising regular and special marshals, the deployed personnel are also equipped with forty-five patrol vehicles, three ambulances, 11 power bikes, and three heavy-duty tow trucks.

Babatunde Farinloye, the Sector Commander, shared this information through a statement signed by the Corp’s Sector Public Education Officer, Olabisi Sonusi. The personnel will be stationed primarily along key corridors like Lagos-Ibadan, Lekki-Epe, Lagos-Abeokuta, Oshodi-Apapa, and Lagos-Badagry.

Their responsibilities include ensuring smooth traffic flow, monitoring speed violations, prohibiting dangerous driving practices, curbing phone usage while driving, preventing overloading, and addressing other risky behavior while promptly responding to emergencies.

Aiming for comprehensive enforcement, Farinloye emphasized dealing with offenses such as failure to present passengers’ manifests, seat belt non-compliance, and the use of expired or worn-out tires.

Underlining the importance of public awareness, the sector commander mentioned plans for aggressive enlightenment campaigns at major motor parks and religious centers. Regular and Special Marshals will also be active on the roads for traffic control during this period.

Working in coordination with various agencies like the Nigeria Police, National Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, they are prepared for any emergency scenario.

Encouraging cooperation from motorists, Farinloye expressed confidence that with the assistance of traffic managers on the roads, road accidents can be significantly reduced.

Motorists were reminded to utilize the toll-free number 122 provided by FRSC for emergencies during their journeys.”
