27-Year-Old Suspect Arraigned for Alleged Assault and Theft of N20,000

Charged before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, artisan Blessing Aganmuyi, aged 27, faced accusations of assault and theft of N20,000 brought against him by the police on Thursday.

The defendant, whose address remains undisclosed, stands accused of two counts: assault and theft.

According to Police Prosecutor ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, the defendant is alleged to have committed the offences on Oct. 27, 2023, at around 12:30pm along Okitipupa-Irele road in Okitipupa magisterial district.

Despite the charges, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Orogbemi detailed the allegation, claiming that due to a minor argument, the defendant physically assaulted Bamidele Temisan by striking him in the face with a fist blow causing severe injuries. Furthermore, the defendant allegedly stole N20,000 from Temisan.

The accused actions are said to be punishable under Sections 355 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

Chief Magistrate Mr Cletus Ojuola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 and required one surety in an equal sum. The surety must be a resident within the court’s jurisdiction and provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Ondo State Government. The case was adjourned until Jan. 18 for further hearing.
