160 Communities in Kano Receive Flood Prevention Materials

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, took steps on Tuesday to distribute essential work materials to 160 Community Development Associations in the state’s eight metropolitan local governments. This initiative aims to enhance the city’s drainage systems and promote sustainable urban development, as outlined in a press release from the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa.

Highlighting the importance of effective drainage systems, Yusuf emphasized their critical role in not just preventing flooding but also in improving public health, environmental quality, and urban livability. He also acknowledged the significant contribution of self-help groups in addressing local challenges within their communities.

Yusuf expressed confidence that providing these materials will lead to practical solutions and have a lasting impact. The initiative aims to achieve improved drainage infrastructure, reduced incidents of flooding and waterlogging, enhanced public health safety, strengthened community bonds, and increased civic engagement.

The governor called for the cooperation of all stakeholders to work towards these collective goals and ensure the optimal use of the distributed materials. He also appealed to development partners and the private sector to offer financial and technical support to this endeavor, underscoring the government’s dedication to constructing a resilient and sustainable city.

The distributed items include 600 wheelbarrows, shovels, rain boots, diggers, fork-shovels, rakes, pans, hand gloves, and 150 first aid boxes.

In addition, Yusuf cautioned against indiscriminate disposal of waste in drainage systems and other water bodies that obstruct the free flow of water during the rainy season.
