Zamfara State Governor Seeks Assistance from Religious Leaders

In an effort to rescue and rebuild Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal has called upon the Council of Ulama to work together with his administration.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Zamfara State Ulama Consultative Council at the Government House in Gusau, the governor stressed the importance of the council’s advisory role in aligning government decisions with religious principles.

According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the Council of Ulama has been instrumental in influencing government decisions over the past 21 years.

Expressing gratitude, the governor assured the council of his readiness to receive their valuable advice on matters of state policy and the welfare of the people.

Lawal expressed appreciation, saying, “Today, as we gather, I am thankful to Almighty Allah for allowing us to inaugurate the newly reconstituted Council of Ulama.

Established in 2003, the Ulama Consultative Council plays a crucial role in strengthening Sharia implementation in Zamfara State, composed of respected Islamic scholars guiding moral, spiritual, and economic development.

Operating under Law Number 6 of 2003, the council has specific functions like screening and recommending Sharia Court Alkali appointments, issuing fatwas, and advising the Governor on Sharia compliance in legislation.

Addressing the esteemed scholars, Governor Lawal urged them to fulfill their responsibilities diligently, emphasizing their role as societal pillars providing moral and spiritual guidance.

Following the reconstitution and inauguration of the council, the governor charged the religious leaders to continue their duties with passion and commitment.
